Identity management in use for high performance computing quotas

Abstract

In High Performance Computing (HPC) there is the need for files and space for files. This project is about making the use of Identity Management (IdM) to help arranging the file and space quotas that set the limits for files and space for files for HPC admins and customers using the HPC service.

CSC provides a web application based MyCSC customer portal for users to manage their user accounts and projects. When underlying file and space quotas are in use, users have access to an easier way of managing files and space for files. Before the automation HPC admins changed the maximum file quota and space for files manually based on user requests.

The project uses CSC’s IdM system that already handles data going through different systems. Applying the new quota-based attributes to already made service profiles that connect user accounts with projects and allowance to use HPC services.

Now that the project is finished the benefits are clear. HPC admins do not have to use precious work time to handle more mundane quota tasks and customers have one customer portal that has all the needed information about quotas and other user and project-based data.

This project’s results can be used on different kind of quota problems and hopefully will lead to better quota process handling.
