Tiivistelmä
The objective of this study was to gather information about performance measurement from a scaleup perspective. The case organization for this study is seeking rapid international growth and for this reason, the aim was to develop a set of KPIs supporting the case organization in achieving its objectives.
This study was carried out as a project in 2021. This thesis project consisted of studying the relevant literature and academic publications from the field. Also, best practices from previous publications were analysed and utilized to support the practical part of this thesis. The theoretical section explores themes of leading with knowledge and performance measurement. Furthermore, key performance indicators as a tool for performance measurement were further studied.
In the later parts of this thesis work the theories were then applied in practice. The empirical part consists of designing the research and carrying out a qualitative study. The data were collected from 11 interviews where the management team, the Board of Directors, and key employees were interviewed. The data were analysed using qualitative content analysis and mind mapping. The results show that the respondents were well aware of different measurement needs and possibilities within their business units.
As a result, a set of key performance indicators was developed for the needs of the case organization. These indicators were based on the finding from the interviews and the theoretical framework. The findings indicate that the case company would gain a competitive advantage for applying key performance indicators in the future and it would likely increase the transparency of business processes.
Further research is required to study the long-term effects of this case study and to further deepen the indicators to team-specific levels such as the software and could infrastructure and feature-specific development.
