Tiivistelmä
The most common urinary system diseases include urinary tract infections, prostatic hyperplasia, kidney failure, and urinary incontinence. Therefore, future nurses need to familiarize themselves with the pharmacological treatment of these diseases.
This thesis was conducted in partnership with Savonia University of Applied Sciences (UAS) as development work. The main goal of the thesis was to develop and update the existing materials on the topic of Urinary system drugs for Savonia UAS’s NURKLÄÄ1 Basics of Pharmacotherapy Course. The thesis research question was to find out how an online learning material in a form of a multimedia PowerPoint presentation can contribute to the knowledge of nursing students about the current pharmacological trends in treating and managing the most common urinary tract diseases.
The finished product was piloted among second and third year nursing students at Savonia University of Applied Sciences to ascertain the quality and effectiveness of the presentation. At the end of the presentation, there was a Webropol survey for evaluation of the product. The students appreciated the quality and clarity of the presentation as well as its length and content. Therefore, we can conclude that the material can be included in the NURKLÄÄ course as supplementary material to augment students’ knowledge about urinary tract system diseases and their pharmacological treatments.
