The aim of this thesis was to find out how solar power can be utilized in EV (Electric Vehicle) charging and how much is the financial benefit. The purpose of the thesis was to produce data and information for the client or-ganisation Väre Oy to support the sales of EV charging systems and solar power systems. The current state and the reasons why the popularity of E-mobility and solar energy systems have began to grow was studied in the thesis. The thesis has began to be topical saleswise since the proportion of electric vehicles in Finland have risen significantly. Energy prices are rising which makes the solar energy systems more profitable.
The differences between EVs and different charging options were explained in the thesis. Also the requirements and principles of charging at home and acquiring the charging station were explained. The principles and sizing of the solar energy system and the net metering of the minor energy production were explained. Spotenergy and its effect on energy expenses was also described. Lastly the communication and operation between the solar energy system and EV charging systems was studied and how much it would be possible to benefit from transferring the overproduction of the solar panels to the high voltage battery of an electric vehicle.
As a result of this thesis, the possible benefits of a solar energy system in a detached house and a block of flats with current usage of electricity were examined. Also the maximal benefit if the overproduction of the solar energy system could be utilized for example in the battery of an electric vehicle were estimated. In the de-tached house the benefit of the solar energy system could be almost 50 % more. In the block of flats the pro-duction of the solar energy system covered already about 96 % of its own usage of electricity. The extra bene-fit of charging an electric vehicle would have been pretty small.
