Tiivistelmä
The purpose of the thesis was to design and develop a data model, communication protocol and human machine interface for in-home energy management system. The design and implementation are user-centered. The designed system allows both vertical and horizontal integrations. The data model was approached with adaptability and flexibility coming first. The proposed communication protocol was designed at high-level of abstraction and its translations to given underlying technologies can be specified when required. Both data model and communication protocol were set to be versatile and can be continuously adjusted to changing environment. The Qt C++ and QML were used to implement the human machine interface of the energy management system. A simulator was also designed and implemented in the scope of this thesis in order to test the proposed solution. Objectives of the thesis were fulfilled and solid foundation for further development was created. Implementation of the human machine interface helps in visualization of the system potential as well as in communication between engineers and users.
