The Benefits of Upholding Temporary Inventory in Construction

Abstract

Tämä opinnäytetyö on tehty Työmaapalvelut Express Oy:lle. Tarkoituksena oli löytää hyödyt ja kehittämisideat välivarastoinnissa. Opinnäytetyössä perehdytään välivarastoinnin hyötyihin rakennusteollisuudessa. Työssä on kerrottu tahtiaikataulun mukaisesta rakentamisesta ja välivarastoinnin vaikutusta työmaan aikataulutukseen.

This thesis was done for Työmaapalvelut Express Oy, a logistics company in the field of construction. The goal was to research and prove the importance of temporary inventory in construction. This topic was chosen, because of a need to show the contractors and clients proof that temporary inventory is beneficial and cheaper to use than traditional logistics. Warehousing is done by a different company. There was also a need for identifying development topics regarding temporary inventory and logistics. Methods used were interviews, feedback, meetings, discussions and personal experience. Feedback was received from the customer and taken into account in this thesis. The interviewees were civil engineers and logistics experts. The result of the thesis is simple, temporary warehousing is a must when you have a big construction site. The costs are cut down significally, pollution is reduced and contractors are able to do what they are hired to do. Temporary storaging is the future of construction and it will be more commonly used, when it gets the recognition it deserves.
