The purpose of this study is to find out the most common sports injuries on lumbar spine in Olympic weightlifting training based on the literature review and to reflect that on the existing theory of women’s strength training. Also, the purpose of this study is to find ways for sports injury prevention on lumbar spine, reflect them and look over special issues related to women’s strength training.
The thesis is commissioned by Tampereen urheilulääkäriasema, UKK-institute and the study is accomplished as a functional thesis. The data collection methods in the thesis are mainly secondary methods based on source literature but also primary methods in the form of professional interviews.
As a result of this thesis there is a specific guide for the prevention of sport injuries on lumbar spine in weightlifting from the perspective of women’s strength training. The guide's purpose is to bring relevant and up to date research into practice in the prevention of sports injuries and in particular specific issues in women's sports such as the hormonal cycle and its effects
on performance.
Because the number of stress-related sports injuries has increased, especially among young athletes, coaches should be more aware of the most important predisposing factors for stress injuries, especially when working with young athletes. One of the most important purposes of this thesis is to increase the knowledge and skills of professionals working in the field of sport.
