Verkkomallin tarkoituksena on toimia testilaitteistona suojarelekehitykselle.
The objective of this thesis was to design a network simulator that simulates an authentic power grid using analog components. The simulator was designed for the purpose of protection relay development and testing.
The study of the thesis focused on different fault types and electrical parameters of power transmission and distribution lines as well as on how to create equivalent circuits of these conditions. The modeling of overhead lines and cables was done using symmetrical components that played a crucial part in the study. The electrical safety of the simulator as well as the ratings of the components also had to be taken into consideration.
Finally the equivalent circuits of the lines were tested and simulated with a simulation software, PSCAD, to validate the design and calculations. This thesis shows that a network simulator based on analog components simulates a real network with sufficient accuracy for relay testing purposes.
