Tiivistelmä
The aluminium melting equipment at ABB Motors for one of four casting lines is planned to be renovated by replacing two of the current aluminium melting furnaces. Before the actual renovation the company required an analysis of the current energy utilization and energy efficiency to be compared with the other modern models of melting furnaces.
The area for investigation was chosen geographically to be Europe due to simplified business trading and relative closeness between countries, which would shorten the delivery times.
For problem resolution both qualitative and quantitative methodological approaches have been applied: theoretical literature review, analysis of existing data, experimental data collection by measuring the current aluminium melting equipment, commissioner interviewing, direct questionnaire to the suppliers. The results are based on observation and experimental data.
The research reflected the current energy utilization and its results proved that the replacement of the old aluminium melting furnaces is reasonable because of their low energy efficiency, which causes extra expenses and generates massive volumes of emission at the aluminium casting line. Since the aluminium motors production is of a great importance at ABB Motors, the purchasing of a new aluminium melting furnace is obvious. The list of potential partners and alternative models for substitution have been submitted to the client.
