The objective of this thesis was to develop a general data migration framework. The process of transferring data from one location to another is known as data migration. Data migration projects often have issues. A data migration framework can help to successfully complete data migration projects. The outcome of this thesis was a general data migration framework.
The first stage of this study was identifying the objective based on the business challenge. The current stage analysis was carried out in the next stage. This stage resulted in the identification of strengths and weaknesses, as well as the framework's requirements. Then, a theory review was conducted to establish the conceptual framework. Finally, the general data migration framework was developed based on the findings of the current state analysis with the conceptual framework.
The data migration framework specifies what is required in data migration projects. The framework is general and adaptable. The framework is divided into three sections: Assess & Plan, Design & Migrate, and Close & Operate. The framework enables increased speed, easiness, reduced cost and consistent quality.
