The technical trainings organized by the case company are an important element for ensuring customer satisfaction. The training material preparation in the case company had been carried out in an unstructured manner earlier and therefore, the objective of this study was to create a clear and structured process for preparing the training material.
The four stages of this study are based on design research methods. The first stage is a current state analysis where the current strengths, key improvement areas and workflow were identified by utilizing multiple research techniques and sources. The second stage is a literature review where existing knowledge and best practices related to the identified key improvement areas were combined for building a conceptual framework of this thesis. Based on the findings from the previous stages, initial proposals for enhancing the key improvement areas as well as the initial training material preparation process were co-defined with key stakeholders in the third stage of this study. Finally, the fourth stage consists of validating the initial proposals and the process by the case company’s managerial key decision makers related to the technical trainings.
The current state analysis resulted in several strengths and key improvement areas. The findings were categorized according to their nature and the key improvement areas were prioritized according to their emphasis levels and occurrence frequencies during the interviews into a list of key improvement areas to develop. The literature review concentrated on these prioritized topics to be improved in the created process. The prioritized key improvement areas were categorized as process and stakeholder communication related issues.
The outcome of this study is a validated technical training material preparation process that takes into account the key improvement areas identified in the current state analysis stage.
