The main purpose of this study is to answer the question “how could single event upsets potentially damage the financial infrastructure”. It utilizes secondary sources to research, analyse and assess the risk, severity, and outcomes that this could cause the financial infrastructure. This study goes over a few real-life examples that can be used to assess the severities of single event upsets and a few calculations are made to show the risks single event upsets possess and lastly, the consequences are explored with a hypothetical situation in a real-life infrastructure these single event upsets could cause. The conclusion arrives to the answer for this study by tying the presented pieces of evidence, facts, examples, and assumptions made by the author. With these findings made by the author, it is possible to conclude that the severity of single event upsets in the financial industry is indeed high with the ever-looming risk of happening at any point. The consequences regarding the weaknesses and other factors discussed in this paper indicate dangerous consequences.
