This study focuses on the concept of data driven organizations and the factors affecting the development towards data driven operations. The purpose is to establish an adequate level of understanding of the field and its core concepts, and filling the knowledge gap currently existing from the aspect of data driven culture.
The ever changing environment, increased amount of data and decreased time span for decision-making has forced organizations to seek for competitive advantage in their data utilizing operations. Therefore, a deeper understanding on these assets and the development of data scanning abilities have become a crucial for organizations. The research in the field of technology has been covered in the past, and therefore, this study aims to develop the domain towards the cultural and people aspect of the issue.
This research is conducted on the basis of a comprehensive literature review from secondary sources, and continued with conducting interviews with five representatives from various positions and industries. The results from the primary research are reflected on the literature reviewed and further analyzed with thematic approach.
The key findings of the research support the hypothesis built and provide in-depth insights on the represented organizations level of maturity and challenges faced when aiming to extract significant competitive advantage from their data assets.
