The purpose for the thesis project was designing a new power distribution unit for a new lightweight testing platform, taking the existing unit’s design from OiTec Oy’s current functional testing platform.
The actual project also included designing, producing required documentation and assembly of the new lightweight testing platform using the previous platform as foundation. Therefore, a lot of the theoretical analysis and calculations were already available before the work even begun. That being the case, this thesis will concentrate more on the design aspects involved in the process.
Unfortunately, due to component shortages, the assembly of the platform was delayed beyond the deadlines of the thesis project, but the design work and documentation were completed on time. Finally, the work done on this thesis project will help OiTec Oy in developing the existing test platform even further when the time comes to replace the programmable logic controller in the old power distribution unit as they enter end of life.
