Tiivistelmä
The goal for this work was to create a foundation for test automation in a newly created modern web application to assist in further development. Test automation is a software testing practice where software is tested automatically instead of having to manually test the software. Test automation is considered as a high priority in modern software development, especially in a DevOps environment.
This work was commissioned by Tietoevry and the foundation for test automation was created with a test automation framework Robot Framework. The work was done as a full-time employee of Tietoevry, with time reserved every week for a total of eight weeks.
This thesis addresses software testing and its methods, test automation, Robot Framework, DevOps and the implementation and planning of test automation for a modern web application. This thesis focuses more on a theoretical side of software testing, since the time to be used for this work was limited. However, the goal for this thesis was completed and a test automation foundation was created for further development of the application.
