Tiivistelmä
The purpose of this thesis was to find out how is cultural diversity managed and how includ-ed are employees with different cultural background feeling in the company are feeling.
This topic was chosen because of the importance of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion pro-grams in organisations.
In this research thesis, the literature is presented in the theoretical framework (chapter 2). The chapter covers the principal topics of the thesis, which are diversity and cultural diversi-ty, workforce diversity, equity, integration, inclusion, cultural diversity management and the actual cultural diversity situation in Finland.
The research part was conducted as a mix of quantitative and qualitative research methods, and it was divided in three phases. The first phase was the qualitative research, and it was conducted through two interviews to HR managers. The second phase was the quantitative research, and it was conducted through an online survey. The online survey in Webropol was targeted to employees with non-Finnish cultural background working in the restaurant branch of the company. The survey was voluntary and anonymous and included eight ques-tions. Responses were collected in April 2022 and the total number of respondents was 25. The third phase was collecting the results from phases 1 and 2. The data was analysed, and the results are presented in Chapter 4.
The results showed that the employees who answered the survey do feel integrated and included in the company. Even though the company is working towards increasing its diver-sity efforts, there are still many barriers to be eased, especially the language ones.
Some of the recommendations for the commissioning company are to invest in future changes towards DEI, set clear and realistic goals and include them in the company’s strat-egy. Inclusiveness and integration should be also measured more accurately.
