This thesis deals with the development of a supplier performance evaluation tool for the case organization. It was important to address the topic of supplier evaluation in the case company as the company's purchasing performance is significantly influenced by supplier performance. It is believed that proper supplier management can create a competitive advantage in the market.
The aim of this study was to develop and pilot a supplier performance evaluation tool for the case company. The literature review served to establish a theoretical framework which focused on the topic of developing and applying supplier assessment. The status quo analysis uncovered vague approaches to supplier performance evaluation within the organization, such as the supplier segmentation tool. However, the company's International Buying department did not have a tool that would constantly track supplier performance. In addition, semi-structured employee interviews revealed development needs and challenges related to a supplier performance evaluation tool for the case organization.
As a result of this study and development work, a supplier performance evaluation tool was proposed and tested in a sub-product group of the case company. With the help of the tool, the case organization can evaluate and track supplier performance. For future actions, the case company was recommended to conduct a larger test phase to test the compatibility of the tool with different product groups. In addition, supplier performance should be re-evaluated after a certain period of time to see if the tool has actually let to an improvement in supplier performance.
