Tiivistelmä
Today’s rapidly growing modern business environment has created a huge scope and special importance for new fields in technology namely – networking, telecom, AI, fast computing, servers, gaming, automation. Business generated by the devices from these advanced technologies developed as custom sys-tem-on-chip electronic designs is a multibillion-dollar industry. These devices are functionally rich and performance oriented. System-on-chip devices being custom, are immensely complex, competitive, and expensive. This creates a lot of challenges for the devices based on system-on-chips to emerge as successful products which are functionally correct and efficient, in a timely manner. The purpose of this thesis is to do risk management and planning for one of the most important milestones, namely A0 in the life cycle of a system-on-chip development project.
This work involves the study and literature review of risk management and planning practices. Risk management is done for A0 milestone in one of the system-on-chip development projects named Saimaa at Aikon-N. The empirical part of the thesis research is based on qualitative approach where methods like - reviews, analysis, brainstorming discussions, interviews have been adopted. It also involves risk identification, assessment, matrix creation, analysis and mitigation plan creation for the potential risks.
The thesis provides a process and well-defined flow for risk management in system-on-chip projects generically across semiconductor industry in conclu-sion and recommendation.
