Pandemic occurrence is increasing and unavoidable, and nurses are always in the affected group since they have close contact with patients. They are highly distressed and suffer from physical and mental exhaustion because of their working conditions. Therefore, it is crucial to implement interventions that facilitate nurses in coping with stressors.
The purpose of this study is to reveal employer-level interventions that support nurses' psychological well-being affected by work-related stress during a pandemic. The aim is to contribute to the nurses' well-being by giving the knowledge, information, and guide to employee-level solutions that support nurses' occupational well-being to prevent burnout related to high workload during pandemics by evaluating evidence-based solutions. The study was implemented as a literature review. The data were collected using CINAHL and PubMed, resulting in the selection of twelve articles that were analyzed using the thematic analysis method.
According to the literature review, the workload can affect nurses physically, psychologically, or emotionally during pandemics and may lead to stress or burnout. Moreover, three types of employer or institutional-level interventions, preventive, reconstructive, and reactive were identified, with each specific factor entitled subcategory. The results give some insight into employee-level assistance toward promoting mental well-being, and this study could benefit both employers and employees in the healthcare field.
