Tiivistelmä
This study aimed to see how remote work affects employee motivation. Many companies had to adjust to remote work during the Covid-19 pandemic; therefore, it was intriguing to analyze how they adapted to the new normal. The framework of the study was to research remote work, motivation, and work motivation.

The client company is a small medium-size company whose employees mainly work remotely. The organization offers the possibility for the employees to work wherever they desire. The employees still have an opportunity to work in the office if they wish.

The research method applied in the thesis was quantitative and the research was conducted with an online questionnaire. The questions were based on the theory part of the thesis. The data was collected with a Webropol form by sending it to the company’s internal communication channel. Twenty-one employees answered the survey, resulting in a response rate of 42%.

The results obtained from the study are in line with the theory part. The employees felt that remote work improved their job satisfaction and efficiency. The challenges of remote work turned out to be the lack of ergonomics and the weakening of communication, which are common issues in remote work.

Based on the research, remote work does not necessarily affect the motivation of all employees positively. However, it can be concluded that the employees of the client company are satisfied with remote work since almost all want to continue working remotely. Although there are still aspects to be developed in remote work, the employees feel that remote work offers many benefits.
