Tiivistelmä
This master’s thesis is commissioned by Erimover Oy Ab, which is an independent and detached organization offering sport and wellness related services, in other words, active health services all over Finland. Services are provided for different sectors and include versatile possibilities to improve and maintain health and wellbeing. As Erimover has broad service offering and employees working all over Finland, strong leaders and high quality in leadership skills are required from the people working as line manager or other administrative roles. As the industry has been suffering from shortage and high turnover in staff, the leader’s role in organizations is even more important.

The purpose for this master’s thesis was to find out how we could best support new leaders in our organization and as an outcome, to create a training path for new leaders. Objective for the training path was to support and improve the current on-boarding processes and job orientation, but also provide a learning experience for new leaders in terms of leadership skills and responsibilities. Goal was to create an outcome that would be easy to modify and improve in the future if needed and would work as a continuous tool for our organization in terms of training new team leaders.

The theoretical framework of this thesis consists of defining a leader and core leadership qualities. This is followed by a presentation of reflective leadership and developing mental skills that are crucial for a leader today but also for future team leaders. As the outcome of this thesis is an actual training program and learning experience for new leaders, a learning culture in organization, training and on-boarding are also discussed as a part of the theoretical framework.

This thesis is a development-oriented thesis where the emphasis is highly on the development work created for the commissioning company. Action research process was chosen to work as an approach during this thesis process. This thesis was concentrating on the first two research cycles, where the third cycle is planned to be conducted in the future. Main data collection method for this research was a workshop and analysis of the workshop results.

As a result of this thesis, a training path for new leaders was created and implemented to commissioning company’s internal training platforms. Training path consists of four different modules with different themes to support the journey of a new leader. Content of the training path is based on the workshop results, theoretical framework of this thesis, and discussions with the steering group.
