Photography is a passion of millions of people globally. For many more, it is a career, a means
of support for themselves and their families. Due to recent technological advancements, most
people carry a pocket-sized camera with them daily; the mobile phone. Considering the
influence of social media on our lives, it’s no surprise that photography has been embraced by
the masses.
Many do not understand the effort that goes into a good photo, believing that expensive
equipment is all that is required. This is not the case. In some fields of photography, like
landscape or wildlife, the most important element is preparation. Identifying the perfect shoot
location can take hours of research.
“Landscape photography is a genre that rewards patience and time in the field, and a rigorous
understanding of your camera and conditions” [1]
This project aims to provide a simple, accessible mobile app, streamlining the reconnaissance
phase of photography. This will leave users with more time to spend outside, taking photos.
The app, called ShootIt!, will prioritise end-user experience throughout development.
ShootIt! hopes to nurture the passion for this hobby in photographers of all ages, worldwide.
The app will cater for everyone from seasoned professionals with high-end gear, to the
youngest of photographers, who are using the same phone that they plan their photoshoots on,
as their camera.
