Murheenmurtaja: Espoon kaupungin aikuissosiaalityön asiakkaat julkisen ympäristön kehittäjinä yhteisötaiteen keinoin

Abstract

Tämän opinnäytetyön aiheena on kaupunkiympäristön kehittäminen aikuissosiaalityön asiakkaiden kanssa yhteisötaiteen keinoin. Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena oli selvittää, miten yhteisötaiteen kautta toteutettu kaupunkiympäristön kehittäminen tuottaa taiteellisen prosessin lisäksi. Opinnäytteenä toteutettavan kehittämistehtävän taustalla on tekemäni työ osallisuuden ja vuorovaikutuksen parissa Espoon kaupungilla vuosien 2011–2021 välillä. Tuon vuosikymmenen aikana olen toteuttanut useita taiteellisia yhteistuotantoja julkiseen ympäristöön. Yhteistuotannolla tarkoitetaan tässä toimintaa, jossa on tavoitteena tuottaa yhdessä suunnitellen ja valmistaen uusia rakenteita fyysiseen ympäristöön. Yhteistuotannossa osallistuja on mukana kohteen suunnittelussa ja toteutuksessa. Opinnäytetyössä muodostettiin ilmaisuyhteisö, joka suunnitteli yhteisötaideteoksen julkiseen ympäristöön Espooseen. Ilmaisuyhteisö on Jussi Lehtosen kehittämä termi, tasa-arvoiselle ilmaisuprosessiin taiteilijan kanssa osallistuvalle yhteisölle. Ilmaisuprosessi perustuu tässä opinnäytetyössä kaupunkiympäristössä toteutettaviin ryhmäkeskusteluihin, joissa käytetään keskusteleva kuvatarkastelu -menetelmää. Menetelmässä käytetään taideteoksia oppimisen ja vuorovaikutuksen välineenä. Menetelmän ovat kehittäneet psykologi Abigail Housen ja museokasvattaja Phillip Yenawine. Opinnäytetyön tutkimusaineisto sisältää prosessin aikana tehtyjä havaintoja sekä ilmaisuyhteisön jäsenille toteutetut yksilöhaastattelut ja ohjausryhmän asiantuntijoille toteutetun ryhmähaastattelun. Tutkimuksen teorialuvussa käydään läpi yhteisötaiteeseen liittyviä erityispiirteitä sekä sosiaalisesti kestävän kaupunkirakenteen malli, jonka mukaan ihminen liittyy osaksi yhteiskuntaa sen demokratia- ja osallisuuskäytäntöjen kautta. Mallin on kehittänyt Soile Kuitunen. Ilmaisuyhteisön kehittämä teoskonsepti Murheenmurtaja tuotti ryhmän jäsenille löytämisen riemua oman taideteoksen äärellä. Ilmaisuprosessin aikana löytyi myös uusi rooli taideinstituutiolle kaupunkiympäristön yhteiskehittämisen alustana ja taiteesta tuossa kehittämistyössä käytävän keskustelun alustana. Näiden löydösten soveltaminen vaatii lisää kehittämistyötä. Kehittämistyötä kannattaa jatkaa kaupunkiympäristön suunnitteluhankkeessa soveltamalla nyt löydettyä taideinstituution roolia yhteiskehittämisen alustana.

The topic of this thesis is the development of the urban environment in co-operation with the clients of adult social work by means of community art. The aim of the thesis was to find out how the development of the urban environment implemented through community art produces in addition to the artistic process. The development task of this thesis is based on my work on inclusion and interaction in the city of Espoo between 2011 and 2021. During that decade I have done several artistic co-productions in the public environment. Co-production here refers to activities with the aim of producing new structures for the physical environment by jointly designing and manufacturing them. In co-production, the participant is involved in the design and implementation of the object. In the thesis, a community of expression was formed. Then that community planned an art piece for a public environment in Espoo. The community of expression is a term developed by Jussi Lehtonen, for a community that participates in equal in the expression process with the artist. In this thesis, the expression process was based on group discussions in the urban environment. The Visual thinking strategy method was used In the discussions. The method uses works of art as a tool for learning and interaction. The method was developed by psychologist Abigail Housen and museum teacher Phillip Yenawine. The research material of the thesis includes observations made during the process as well as individual interviews conducted to the members of the community of expression. There was also a group interview conducted to the experts of the project group. In the theory chapter of the study, I go through the special features related to community art and the model of a socially sustainable urban structure. According to socially urban structure a person becomes a part of society through its democratic and inclusive practices. This model was developed by Soile Kui-tunen. The art-concept Murheenmurtaja was developed by the expression community. The process gave group members joy of discovering their own work of art. During the expression process, a new role was also found for the art institution as a platform for the co-development of the urban environment. Art institutions can act as a platform for the discussion of the development work. The application of these findings requires further development work. The development work should be conducted as part of real urban development project using the art institutions as a platform for co-development.
