Tiivistelmä
This article describes a study in which the Learning by Developing (LbD) action model has been used
as a teaching and learning method for computing students in Finland and the United Kingdom. The
study has been carried out as action research, and the subjects of the study have been Laurea University
of Applied Sciences (Laurea) and Haaga-Helia University of Applied Science (Haaga-Helia) from
Finland and Robert Gordon University (RGU) from the UK. The research aims to get information about
how computing students' competence in different competence areas develops during the study module
chosen for the research and how well the students think it fits into computing studies. The research
results are also utilised in developing the LbD action model.
