Effective communication is vital in every workplace, especially in all healthcare institutions, such as aged care facilities. However, various factors can hamper communication effectiveness, the most common of which is the presence of language barriers, which generate miscommunications and
misunderstandings in the workplace, particularly among healthcare workers.
Hence, the purpose and objectives of the study is to identify and evaluate language barriers and explore how language obstacles impact the delivery of quality healthcare in the aged-care context, as well as how these linguistic barriers affect the connection between healthcare professionals. The research was conducted as an observational study throughout the 228 clinical training, with participant observation used as a method for gathering data.
The findings show three major factors that explain how language barriers influence healthcare facilities and personnel. These are the communal connections that indicate that some healthcare professionals lack cultural and linguistic competency. The individual factors demonstrate that varying levels of language proficiency have a significant impact on the existence of language barriers. And finally, learning development where language barriers impede the development of foreign healthcare professionals as it causes misunderstanding between or among the healthcare team.
