Tiivistelmä
The purpose of this study is to explore the unique and subjective ideas of non-European foreign trained nurses’ experiences, regarding integration into the Finnish health system.
This study used qualitative research approach with open semi-structured interviews on eight (8) non-European trained nurses who have undergone integration process in Finland.
The Researcher used an inductive method to analyse the data thematically. Data collected were organised into codes and further accounted into subthemes that resulted in five (5) main themes discussed in answering the research questions.
The resulting data yielded the high expectation the participant had in anticipation of moving to Finland, with the adaptation of Transition theory to understand the aftermath effect of integration.
The experience of the participants extends a little to the effect of integration at the workplace as well. It explained the effect of support system and self-motivation and how it contributed to their integration process and to an extent their post integration life.
Discussion on career development and various changes that have affected their standards and plans were explained.
The study concluded that while transition brings normal changes to life, the uncertainty experienced have significant effect on a person and can impact them, if not supported. Therefore, it will be of good interest that all stakeholders get involved in developing standard integration policies. This will help these nurses throughout their transition in respect to their individuality, past skills, and knowledge.
