Designing an Intuitive Movie Trailer Browsing App: Applying User Experience Principles

This thesis aims to find out the principles and good practices of User Experience Design and use them to create a simple prototype for a mobile application meant for browsing movie trailers and helping people to more easily decide on movies to watch.
For finding out these practices, literary source research was conducted and Google’s Professional Certificate for UX Design was studied. Except for one novel, the sources gathered were online sources, primarily from authorities in the field such as Adobe and the Interaction Design Foundation. Study was conducted about User Experience, the User Experience Design Process, Interaction Design, Usability and Accessibility.
The user research for creating the designs were conducted primarily through interviews and creating personas and a user journey map. The design process was done iteratively, with simple low-fidelity wireframes created first, followed by more designs and then a clickable prototype, which was used in user testing. The testing was conducted with three different people all fitting the target demographic and their findings were gathered to potentially used for future iterations.
Overall, the prototype seemed to hit most of the requirements for good usability and applied the theoretical framework of User Experience well. There are still improvements to be made and future features to design, but generally the design could be used by programmers as a good basis for implementing this application.
