The diary thesis illustrates the professional development and growth of Data Analyst professional in a Finance and Control department in Forestry Industry organization within eight weeks. The structure of the thesis includes an introduction, an overview of the initial situation, diary entries with weekly analysis, a discussion and conclusion parts. The introduction is mostly about the company, providing background information about the author and a brief overview of what might be the upcoming challenges at work.
Description of initial situation covers the short analysis of current work, including Azure Cost Management analysis, the tools Data analyst use on a daily bases, such as Power BI and Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, understanding of several Software-as-a-Service platforms, such as Thinking Portfolio and Service Now. This chapter also covers the key stakeholders overview and authors interaction situation in organization, including the needed soft skills and hard skills needed for Data Analyst position.
Diary Entries are made on a daily basis and the main purpose of the thesis is to observe the Data analyst daily tasks and the professional challenges at work and how to solve the issues related to the topics like SQL queries, Data modeling, Data visualization, ITIL framework, Dataflow architecture, different types of data flows and Microsoft Azure Platform and its cost components as FinOps framework.
The discussion and conclusion part explains what has been achieved during the eight weeks period and what are the next steps in professional development.
