The aim of this bachelor’s thesis was to outline the specific characteristics of the adult industry, adult industry marketing, and the ethical aspects of adult content distribution, as well as provide insights into unconventional marketing strategies that can be used to promote a business in the adult industry.
This study aimed to create a coherent picture of different types of marketing strategies used in this specific industry and how these tools help to comply with existing regulations. This paper explained various types of adult industry markets and how they function, as well as gave a better understanding of adult industry marketing and company scaling.
The research analysed interviews conducted with people of various backgrounds and working experience in the adult industry. The findings uncovered the existing challenges of the adult-oriented market and suggested marketing strategies and tools that have been proven to be effective. These findings included influencer marketing and collaboration, social media marketing strategies to avoid being banned from mainstream social media platforms, visiting conferences and expanding podcasting networks. This thesis also talked about inclusivity in the adult market and its educational value to society, suggesting solutions to make the adult industry safer leading to positive externalities of consumption and bringing societal benefits. It covered the corporate social responsibility that adult industry companies undertake in order to create a better brand image and brand awareness.
