Tiivistelmä
This thesis focuses on Improving report generation process in test automation projects of the case company. The idea of automated test automation report arises when the management demands the availability of organized summary of testing objectives, activities, and results in a single test automation planning document.
In this study, applied action research is used as a research strategy where data is collected from stakeholders during discussions, observation on the current test automation report generation practices, and analysis of internal documents and analyzed to understand the development needs towards an improved automation process in the case company. The strengths and weaknesses of the current test automation practices are studied to co-create a proposal on improving report generation in test automation process in the case company.
In the current state analysis, it is found that the current process lacks major parts of test automation i.e., report generation tool / processes that would combine a summary report for executive management and stakeholders and test automation report visibility in the Test plan. The study proposes improvement in these two areas with the help of the conceptual framework developed during the literature review and the stakeholder’s suggestions.
The outcome of the study is the proposal on how to improve the test automation report generation of projects and making the test automation processes more efficient by increasing their transparency and reporting. The proposed solution in test automation report generation process focuses on finding a solution to archive and transfer test automation reports from test execution tool to test management tool by creating integration between those two tools.
This thesis contributes to the case company towards the digital business transformation by making the test automation processes more efficient. The proposed solution connects all the aspects of test automation and test management and has a direct impact on the test automation projects’ result visibility in all the projects of the company. All the projects will have up-to-date test results from test automation with automated solution and the company will have clear visibility of test automation reports and in the long-term cost, time and resources will be minimized.
