This thesis was the development process of a new method, which main aim was to improve awareness of movement. The base of the method was comprised of body meditation, somatics, and movement exploration. With those elements the author wanted to research experiences of awareness and factors to contribute consciousness. The author thought that exploring the anatomic body and having a moment to listen to the needs of the body is very important for understanding and respecting oneself.
A group of four participants and the author herself practised with the awareness method in regular meetings from January to March 2023. The data for the development process and this report was collected from practise diary texts of the group and discussion notes made by the author in the meetings. This large amount of data consisted of the participants’ personal experiences about feelings, happenings, and awareness during the practice and the whole process. The data was analysed and categorised to create the values and the principles of the method.
The created method (TL-method) dived deep into anatomical consciousness, demanding a strong concentration during the practise. The body meditation, the somatical part, and the movement exploration glided together forming a clear structure, in which the practiser tried to feel both outer and inner movement of the body. The difficulties of the practise came from non-concrete targets for the awareness, a very long exercise time, and many challenges of concentration. During the process the method reached a better understanding of what is movement. The values directing the practise became freer and more permissive so that the method emphasized listening the body needs and filling them, no matter if it means doing or not doing. It was found out that the method develops the awareness when practised regularly. The development work is still going to continue.
