This diary thesis was written for Organizaton X, a company in biofuel industry, from a perspective of a project manager, whose main responsibilities include managing ICT processes and orchestrating digital transformation in an organization where IT is not the core business. Company will be referenced by a pseudonym to protect the privacy of the employer.
The thesis consists of five three-week long sprints. As an author, I was granted autonomy to explore and suggest improvements on any topic within our organization.
During the first two sprints I evaluate various areas within Organization X ICT domain to find the area(s) that need improvement. Starting form third sprint onwards, the focus shifts to data – primarily data governance and data analytics, which are one of the main foundations of modern business. I explore several options on how data can be used in the small enterprise to improve the business decision-making and ultimately, to stand out in business competition.
This thesis work led to several proposed improvements in the field of data analysis and data governance. Utilizing an autoethnographic approach and writing a diary thesis also provided to be beneficial in terms of my professional growth.
