Tiivistelmä
Concepting process for innovation was originally a result of discussions with the Technology Center Manager of ABB Oy, Distribution Solutions. This was supported by more discussions in the organization and a study of Distribution Solutions portfolio management process. Concepting new products or services is nowadays in the hands of Research and Development and Product Management while there are a lot of general forums inside the organization which are receiving information on customer needs and generating their own ones. Innovation culture is growing fast in the organization, but it does not have a real support of concepting. Distribution Solutions needs a concepting process for potential needs handling. The aim of the thesis was to find a right process for the purpose which can be utilized to build a new concept with the most agile way.

The thesis process focused on research, theory, experience, analysis, Lean methodology and creative design which were together building a concepting process. During the process several facilitation methods are built to give finished tools for concepting process. Research of portfolio management process and concepting theory with experience in concepting process gave the starting point for the practical part of the thesis. The conception experience was analyzed and first concepting process was built. The second concepting process was built after analyzing the major Agile frameworks. After analyzing every part of the second process, the final process was built.

The result of the thesis is a process what includes facilitated steps with facilitation methods and execution that works in a dynamic, fast and cost-efficient way. Team building is important, but the lack of competence can be fulfilled with strong facilitation. The thesis proves that the innovation process can be modified and innovated to suit better for the user needs. The developed concepting process is a lean way to give more value for the customer and for the business.
