The aim of this research was to evaluate the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) practices in Bangladesh’s banking sector. A discussion of its use in government and nongovernment banks and the performance afterward.
Over the past few years, the banking industry in Bangladesh has placed significant importance on implementing corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives to balance their operations with the needs of society. As a result, this research seeks to evaluate CSR practices conducted by various types of scheduled banks in Bangladesh, including state-owned commercial and development banks, private commercial banks, and foreign commercial banks.
Secondary data from Bangladesh Bank publications between 2018 and 2021 serve as the primary source of information. The study finds that nearly all banks are actively engaged in CSR activities, with private commercial banks leading in terms of contribution.
The study further reveals that the banking sector in Bangladesh is primarily focused on CSR activities related to disaster management, education, health, cultural welfare, environment, infrastructure development in remote areas, income generation for underprivileged populations, and other sectors.
