The aim of this study is to create awareness by educating elderly women of the recommendable treatments for urinary incontinence and the purpose is to reduce the prevalence rate of urinary incontinence among elderly women. The study one research question as follow: What are the recommendable treatments of urinary incontinence for elderly women? The theoretical framework for the study is the health promotion theory by Pender Nola. The theory propagates promoting positive health behaviour to achieve well improved quality of life. This study was conducted in as a qualitative content analysis method and inductive content analysis was used to analyze the result (Literature review).
The findings show there several ways in which urinary incontinence can be treated. The diverse method of to treat urinary incontinence could be seen under the different types under specify treatment methods like, physical therapy, involving PFMT and bladder training, there is also behavioural therapy/life style training which involves bladder training and reduction of liquid consumption, there is pharmaco- therapy which involves the administration of medications and surgical therapy, which involves the different types of surgery performed depending on the type of urinary symptoms.
To conclude, the 5 different types of urinary incontinence do have various methods of treatments. The reason this group of people don’t know and are not open to report their symptoms has led to an increase of the prevalence of urinary incontinence suffers. However, this study will be the medium to create awareness and educate them of the available treatments cure or manage their urinary incontinence. The nurse, also need to create that room of awareness and telling target group of the consequences faced with the disease. Having the bothersome symptoms is a burden and the suffers need to address the issue as there are possible means to handle it as seen in this same paragraph.
