Tiivistelmä
In a professional field such as mechatronics & automation technology, where skilled workers are primarily needed and where bottlenecks are already visible all the same, the dual vocational training plays the decisive role for the preservation of the profession as well as for the personnel coverage in individual companies. It is therefore imperative that corporate managers are aware of the skilled labour situation and act accordingly. This requires analysing the current status of the company and developing strategies to create a working environment in which employees feel satisfied, are willing to perform and wish to remain in the long term. Since the life circumstances of employees can differ drastically, appropriate measures should also be taken to address the needs of specific target groups and individuals. The competition, which is also striving for employee retention, is an obstacle in this respect. It is therefore essential to understand retention management as a continuous process and thus to evaluate the situation of the company repeatedly to respond to changes respectively. The retention of trainees through appropriate measures seems inevitable, as they are aware of their value to companies and have enough alternatives in sight.

This bachelor thesis has shown the importance and yet complexity of employee retention in practice and made it clear that dual vocational training and retention management are investments in the continued existence and economic success of a business.
