Laidunportti laiduntamisen apuna - tarpeen vai ei?

Abstract

Teknologian käyttö lisääntyy maataloudessa. Teknologiaa voidaan hyödyntää esimerkiksi ihmisten ja eläinten hyvinvoinnin parantamiseen, minkä tärkeys on korostunut. Työn tavoitteena oli selvittää, minkälaisia automaattisia laidunportteja Suomessa on myynnissä. Työssä pyrittiin myös selvittämään niiden käytön hyviä ja huonoja puolia. Saaduista tuloksista koostettiin tietokortti, jossa esiteltiin automaattinen laidunportti sekä sen hyvät ja huonot puolet. Opinnäytetyö toteutettiin selvitystyönä.

Opinnäytetyön tekeminen koostui kolmesta eri osasta. Ensimmäisessä osassa kerättiin internetistä tietoa porteista, joita myydään Suomessa. Toisessa osassa haastateltiin porttien myyjiä sekä maatilayrityksiä, joilla portti on käytössä. Haastattelut toteutettiin teemahaastatteluina. Haastattelujen avulla kerättiin tietoa porteista ja niiden käytöstä. Kolmannessa osassa tehtiin Webropol-kysely. Kyselyllä pyrittiin selvittämään perusteita sille miksi jotkin tilat eivät ole investoineet laidunportteihin. Haastatteluihin osallistuivat porttien myyjien edustajat ja maatilayritysten haastatteluja tehtiin viisi. Gea- ja Fullwood Joz -merkeiltä työhän ei löytynyt haastateltavia maatilayrityksiä. DeLavalin porttiin investoineista haastateltiin kolmea ja Lelyyn investoineista kahta maatilayritystä. Webropol-kyselyyn vastasi 16 maatilayrittäjää.

Haastattelujen ja kyselyn pohjalta tuotettiin tietokortti. Tietokortti tehtiin Savonia-ammattikorkeakoulun julistepohjalle. Tietokortissa oli kooste laidunporteista sekä niiden hyvät ja huonot puolet. Hyvät ja huonot puolet työhön saatiin tilallisten haastatteluista, joissa kysyttiin heidän kokemuksiaan portin käytöstä. Haastattelujen ja kyselyn pohjalta saatuja tuloksia voi vääristää otoksien pieni määrä.

Haastattelujen ja kyselyn pohjalta voi tulkita, että porttiin investoineet ovat olleet tyytyväisiä ja portista on ollut hyötyä tilalle. Lehmien lypsyrutiini paranee, kun lypsyluvalliset lehmät eivät pääse ulos ennen kuin ovat käyneet lypsyllä. Se on vähentänyt ihmisen tekemää työtä. Lehmät, jotka halutaan pitää sisällä, eivät pääse ulos. Portin todettiin olevan myös turvallisempi vaihtoehto niin lehmille kuin ihmisillekin. Portin avulla voi-daan myös seurata, käyvätkö lehmät laitumella ja milloin ne käyvät. Porttiin investoimatta jättämisen selkein syy oli sen tarpeettomaksi toteaminen, lypsykierto toimi tilalla ilmankin. Lisäksi investoimatta jättämi-seen vaikutti portin hinta.

Tulevaisuudessa voisi tehdä selvitystyön terapialaitumista. Aiheesta ei löytynyt paljon tietoa. Aihe voisi olla hyvä, sillä karjakokojen kasvaessa kaikilla tiloilla ei ole mahdollista laiduntaa. Terapialaitumella lehmät pää-sisivät hieman laiduntamaan ja toteuttamaan niille luontaista käyttäytymistä.

The use of technology is increasing in agriculture. Technology can be utilised, for example, for the well-being of humans and animals, which has become increasingly important. The goal of this thesis was to find what kind of automatic sorting gates are available for sale in Finland. The thesis also finds pros and cons of using automatic sorting gates. At the end of the thesis, information was compiled as an information card. The thesis was conducted as research.

The thesis consists of three parts, In the first part, there is information collected from the internet about sorting gates sold in Finland. In the second part, salespersons and farms using gates were interviewed. The interviews were carried out as theme interviews. The interviews were used to collect information about gates and their use. In the third part, a Webropol survey was made. The survey was made to investigate reasons why some farms had not invested in the gate. The representatives of gate sellers participated in the interviews and five interviews were made with farms. There were no farm interviews from Gea and Fullwood Joz brands. Three interviewed farms had invested in DeLaval gate and two in Lely gate. 16 farms responded to the Webropol survey.

An information card was produced based on the interviews and survey. The information card was made on the poster base of Savonia University of Applied Sciences. The information card contains a summary of the gates and their pros and cons. The pros and cons were collected from the farm interviews, in which their experiences with using the gate were asked. The results obtained on from the interviews and surveys can be distorted by the small number of samples.

Based on the interviews and the survey, it can be interpreted that those who invested in the gate have been satisfied and the gate has been beneficial to the farm. The milking routine of the cows has improved and the cows have not got out with a milking permit until they have been milked. It has reduced the work done by humans. The gate can also be used as monitoring to monitor whether and when the cows go out to the pasture. Farms that didn’t invested to the gate clearest reason was that they found gate unnecessary, and the milking cycle worked out in the farm without it. Also, the price of the gate had an effect.

In the future, there could be research about therapy grazing. There was not much information on the subject. The subject could be good because when the farm size grows there is the possibility that not every farm can graze the cows. In the therapy pasture, the cows could graze a little and fulfil their natural behaviour.
