Tiivistelmä
This thesis is done for the global markets and trade program. It is a practice-based thesis containing a business plan for a hypothetical private jet charter company operating from Finland. The thesis is written during a period of six months. It focuses on the operative and practical side of the business environment and contains theory behind the business strategy. The objective was to create a feasible plan for such a company and provide value for those planning to operate in the business aviation field. This particular niche in the aviation business has not been widely covered in literature. The topic is current in today’s aviation field. There are only a few operators in this market area, and the thesis finds a demand that is not yet sufficiently filled.
In the introduction, the key concepts and project scope are explained in detail. The business plan is written in a zipper-model with the theory, meaning both are covered in each chapter. The case company is then introduced with information about its size, services, operational base, staff and fleet. The theory behind a business plan is introduced along with the operational viewpoint of the case company. The business model, strategies and values are presented also in the theoretical background.
The methodology chapter discusses the type of the thesis and why it was chosen. The writing and creating process is described and the background information behind the case company is explained. Prior knowledge from the aviation field helped to choose the topic and project scope to gain relevant insight on the subject. Source criticism is easier with experience gained from multiple job positions in different companies operating in the aviation business. Conclusions include thoughts on the process and the future outlook of the company and field in general. Evaluation of the learning process and the practical usability of the business plan are considered.
