Tiivistelmä
In today’s competitive job market, retaining talent can be a complex challenge that managers may struggle with. Employee engagement and organizational commitment are essential topics to focus on when formulating a people strategy that ensures the longevity of employment. Evaluating employee engagement within the organization is crucial for improving job satisfaction and employee well-being. Satisfied and motivated employees have a significant impact on company’s overall performance and therefore need to be carefully considered. Management should regularly assess their staff’s employee engagement and find ways to improve it. Focusing on engaging employees can positively affect employee retention and lower employee turnover rate.

The goal of this thesis is to identify the factors that the commissioning company needs to focus on to improve their employee engagement. To reach the goal, theoretical framework of employee engagement and qualitative research are utilized. Qualitative research is the primary research method used in this thesis. Data was collected from five different interviews. Survey provided by the commissioning company was used as a background information when formulating the interview questions. The survey also provided insights of the current engagement level. The data was analyzed thematically.

The findings of this research indicate that trust between the employees and trust in the leadership department play a significant role in employee engagement in company X. Furthermore, the results indicated that internal communication should be focused on to ensure transparency and clarity. By doing so, conflicts that influence the work atmosphere negatively can be prevented. Remote work was found to increase the challenge of building trust between employees and maintaining effective internal communication.
It is important to recognize that every organization faces its own challenges and has specific factors to focus on when it comes to employee engagement. By providing practical insights based on the experiences of company X, this thesis offers valuable guidance to organizations seeking to enhance their employee engagement practices. Company X can utilize this thesis to acknowledge the crucial areas to focus on in the near future to maintain the current level of employee engagement and retain their employees.
