Tiivistelmä
Teams, Zoom and other video conferencing tools alike have become very familiar to most, latest in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, video interviewing has been common practise in international recruitment already for years, especially in the hospitality industry.

This research aims to examine the best practises for using Teams as a tool in international recruiting, and to provide further improvements for the commissioning company operating in staffing. The focus is on the international applicants for a seasonal job in the hospitality industry in the Finnish Lapland for the winter season 2023-24. The purpose of the research is to give the commissioner suggestions for developing and enhancing their operations, and therefore improve the overall candidate experience as well as the level of customer satisfaction.

The data for the project was collected from both primary and secondary sources. The primary data was gathered from 26 international applicants who had been interviewed in Teams, through an online questionnaire which consisted of both close-ended and open-ended questions. A mix of quantitative and qualitative data was chosen, as they allowed on the other hand the statistical analysis of the quantitative data, and on the other hand the content analysis of the qualitative data. The secondary data was retrieved from relevant scientific publications and reliable online sources.

The questionnaire findings were analysed and supported by the relevant theoretical framework introduced. The findings indicate that the overall candidate experience of Teams interviews and the company’s virtual hiring process is a positive one. However, to further improve the connection, trust and transparency, measures such as enhanced communication and additional feedback channels are introduced. Also, to improve the recruiter’s social presence perceived by the applicant, some practical tips are shared.

Video interviews are likely to be increasingly used in the future as well, and therefore it is important to keep examining the best practises for the technological tools used in recruiting. This topic offers great possibilities for future studies, for example for larger-scale international recruitments or for different industries.
