The focus of this thesis is to research different Warehouse Management Systems, that are used in similar environments to the company’s case and find a possible adaptation that could be implemented by the personnel the firm has nowadays. Lack of policies, procedures, and standardization in warehousing practice leads the management system to suffer several inventory issues. Clarifying the weak points of the processes performed by the warehouse, and using the information along with the selected literature, and data collected from inter-views was used to build a WMS proposal framework.
Examination of the parts and types of existing warehouses was made to under-stand where to place the commissioner's case. Further research included analysis of the processes carried out in warehousing practices, how the layout of the warehouse is designed, and its evaluation concerns. Analysis of the physical control of items and location systems, along with possible item movement analysis were included as well. The second data source was compiled from interviewing the commissioner’s personnel, another company performing similar warehousing practices, and a retail worker who had experienced in person the implementation of an entire management system.
Compiling all this information a proposal including processes and procedures modification, and the integration of ICT into the new system were created. To ensure that the implementation would not merely be a theoretical assumption, an analysis of the new system was conducted to prioritize the most critical processes to be incorporated, as well as a realistic examination of the problems the implementation of the system would entail and potential solutions for them.
