The goal of this thesis is to explore web service authentication methods in the context of modern web applications. As web services continue to be integral components of today's digital landscape, the need for simple but secure authentication is essential. This study aims to navigate through some of the technical solutions and identify good practices for secure authentication. It also considers common security threats of web services and how they can be mitigated.
The project presented in this thesis implemented a multi-user authentication system into an existing dashboard project using modern client-side application architecture. The features introduced include email sign-up and sign-in, Microsoft sign-in, two factor authentication, password reset and access control. The result is a practical guide for web developers seeking to implement authentication to web services and to learn about security best practices.
