Diversity and inclusion of an organization and in the work community are themes that are constantly receiving more and more attention. When they exist, an organization has a group of employees from various backgrounds with versatile insights and ideas, and they are made feel valued, respected, and empowered members of the group with their unique characters. Diverse and inclusive organizations attract the best talent and retain them through employee engagement and often out-perform their less diverse and inclusive competitors. In the turmoil of fast-moving business environment organizations should invest in diversity and inclusion in order to remain competitive and as the employer of choice.
The aim of this work was to explore the current diversity and inclusion situation in the Company X perceived by its administrative personnel and make development suggestions how to make improvements on these areas. The diversity and inclusion were viewed in terms of company operating processes and practices and the administrative personnel´s own attitudes and experiences of diversity and inclusion.
The theoretical framework of the study is based on academic literature and research articles within the topics of diversity and inclusion from different aspects. The research was conducted by applying quantitative research strategy and case study approach was selected to gain an in-depth understanding of the studied phenomena. The method for data collection was an online survey that was sent to the administrative personnel.
The results of the study indicated that the current situation in the case company regarding diversity and inclusion was on a very good level in general. However, some aspects rose from the results, which were selected to further discussion, such as the unawareness of or lack of management´s promotion and commitment to diversity and inclusion, fairness and transparency in career advancement and promotion practices as well as knowledge regarding unconscious bias and their effect on decision-making. As the outcome of this thesis, development suggestions were made based on these aspects.
