This thesis analyzes the business and financial risks and benefits of a business expansion for the commissioning company, Eksotiske Delikatesser Suomi Oy (also known as Delikate Oy), based in Espoo, Finland. The project aims to provide the company with a recommendation for the most appropriate strategy and potential financial gains from the expansion.
The theoretical framework provides all the necessary information to make a high-quality recommendation. The framework includes financial theory, financial statement analysis, strategic analysis, and analysis of expansion strategies. The theory also involves the industry analysis that the company can use, followed by academic theory concerning the scenario analysis of the profitability of a new initiative.
This project involves both qualitative and quantitative research. The financial statements of the commissioning company were analyzed, and various theories were studied through secondary research. Additionally, primary research was conducted through qualitative face-to-face interviews. The company's strategic positioning was also analyzed to determine the best investment option. Finally, financial scenarios were built to see the selected investment's sensitivity to profit margins.
The findings suggest that Delikate Oy is financially capable and prepared for expansion. The most suitable option turns out to be establishing a sales and marketing team to boost sales in the Finnish market. The research indicates that if Delikate Oy successfully improves productivity as planned, the company can greatly benefit from the investment. All of this valuable information will assist Delikate Oy in its future expansion endeavors.
