The goal of this thesis study was to assess the critical safety issues in USB chargers by carrying out different testing methods to identify potential safety flaws that could lead to electric shock, fire, or other hazards.
This thesis explores conformity assessment with specific focus on low voltage directives (LVD) and emphasizes the importance of energy efficiency. It provides practical understanding of safety testing procedures from technical assessment to approval process, it helps designers, importers, and sellers to gain knowledge of how product compliance tests are structured and conducted. In addition, they will learn ways to avoid common causes of failing these tests and areas likely to reveal a nonconformity.
The result of the study is information on the procedure of conformity assessment and the safety hazards were determined using tests according to the IEC 62368-1 standard. The test results show that the used sample USB charger does not comply with standards. All tests were conducted at the SGS Fimko laboratory.
