Guiding young couples in Kenyan rural areas to utilize contraception is a pivotal approach that can help them avoid the challenges for example infant and maternal mortality. Contraception utilization is still of concern in the Kenyan rural areas. The purpose of this thesis was to create a guidance video as a means of passing message on contraception to young couples in Kenyan rural areas. The young couples can make informed decisions concerning contraception by consuming the message. An information search was conducted in CINAHL to find answers for the tasks; benefits of contraception, factors affecting utilization and factors to be considered when choosing contraception method.
Despite the high demand for contraceptive, for one reason or another including, unverified information for example myths and isconceptions, illiteracy, socio-cultural and gender related issues, some women still do not use them. Video is trusted to be efficient in delivering sexual health related messages due to its privacy, accessibility, and cost. Content from health care professionals and institutions is trusted most in this field. A video was created that used informal local spoken swahili language which is understood by most young couples in Kenya rural areas, the video was created by use of final cut software and images from pexels.com
In conclusion, it is possible to deliver a message about contraception to young people via a video. However, small target group specific ways of communication can be exploited to improve effectiveness and development of a guideline and use advanced resources to improve quality of guidance video.
