Hand hygiene is an important and crucial step in promoting health and preventing the spread of infections. Good hand hygiene can reduce the spread of respiratory and gastrointestinal illnesses among others.
The purpose of this functional thesis was to create a simple, informative poster on hand hygiene. The data was gathered by a literature review, and therefore, based on the literature review from peer reviewed articles and books, key concepts on hand hygiene were collected, and a poster was created. The objective of our thesis is to promote hand hygiene among children aged 5-8 years old in Chepkorio Primary School. Teaching children basic hand hygiene at a young age is an effective way to cultivate a culture and this can easily be passed on to other generations and the community at large.
Challenges contributing to poor hand hygiene include poor infrastructure such as unavailability of water, soap and hand disinfectants, lack of adequate information on the importance of handwashing.
In future, offering teachers adequate training and support on good hand hygiene practices and ways to work them into school activities and programs. encouraging parents, the community, and local health agencies to participate in improving hand hygiene through neighborhood initiatives, public awareness and partnerships, creating lasting strategies to uphold hand hygiene such as building structures, lasting water supply and budgeting for resources to keep the practice ongoing and sustainable.
