This Thesis aims to assess and develop the current Supplier Classification in use in the case company, so that to make it serve the organization better and wider especially from the Risk Management point of view. The goal is to find the critical suppliers that need more attention. In the case company, the ways of working vary from the basic supplier development to more profound partnership relation creation.
To achieve this goal, this Thesis was collected, analysed and re-evaluated all related information in the case company and presented a well-reasoned and well-argued development suggestion for its Supplier Classification Scorecard for Risk Analyse of the suppliers.
Action Research was the used as its research methodology with mixed research methods. It was a natural choice of the research strategy for a single company with own data base that was subject of the development project. For the data collection, a themed questionnaire was used to collect data from relevant stakeholders. In addition, interviews were conducted for more targeted stake holders with more precise questions for more detailed information.
The theoretical framework was built from Supply Chain Management topics through Supplier Management and Supplier Segmentation themes to the goal of this Thesis, Supplier Classification. Supplier Classification is a method were any procurement function grades its suppliers with different criteria and variables, gives scores according to the limits they have set and end up with a grade and classification for the supplier. Based on the analysis of the data acquired in the thesis and supported with literature and best practice discussed in the theoretical framework, the thesis resulted in a suggestion for new the Supplier Classification Scorecard for Risk Management. This makes it possible for the organization to have better view of the risks in supply and the organization will have better information available for decision making.
