Fotorealistinen hiilipiirtäminen : hiilipiirtäminen vanhasta valokuvasta realistiseen tyyliin

Abstract

Opinnäytetyöni aihe oli fotorealistinen hiilipiirtäminen. Tutkin fotorealismia ja sen ominaispiirteitä taiteessa. Opinnäytetyöni tarkoitus oli tarkastella lähemmin tätä tyylisuuntaa ja purkaa sen perimmäinen olemus ymmärrettävään muotoon. Tavoitteenani oli myös kerätä harrastelijoille informatiivista tietoa valokuvarealistisesta hiilipiirtämisestä, jotta heidän ei tarvitsisi oppia kaikkea kokeilun ja erehdyksen kautta. Tutkimuskysymyksenäni oli, miten tuotan fotorealistisen hiilipiirustuksen vanhasta valokuvasta.

Tietoperustan keskeisimmät käsitteet opinnäytetyössäni olivat fotorealismi taiteessa, referenssikuvan valinta ja muokkaus, materiaalit, sekä tekniikka. Opinnäytetyöni oli taiteellinen tutkimus, jossa analyysimenetelmänä käytin formalistista analyysiä. Hyödynsin opinnäytetyössäni myös tuotettua dokumenttia osana aineistonhankintamenetelmää. Perehdyin tunnetun taiteilijan työskentelyyn ja menetelmiin. Aineistonkeruumenetelmänä käytin havainnointia. Tuotin itse useamman viivapiirrosluonnoksen, sekä yhden fotorealistisen hiilipiirustuksen. Työn etenemistä kirjasin ylös muistiinpanoin. Työvaiheet kuvasin talteen sekä video- että valokuvaamalla.

Opinnäytetyöni keskeisenä tavoitteena oli luoda todenmukainen kuva fotorealistisesta hiilipiirtämisestä. Selvitin tyylisuunnan merkittävimmät yksityiskohdat ja kokosin niistä kattavan tietopankin sekä itselleni että alan harrastelijoille. Tulin siihen johtopäätökseen, että tutkimustiedostani tulee varmasti olemaan hyötyä fotorealistisen hiilipiirtäjän aluille. Opinnäytetyössäni valmistin myös 100 x 70 cm fotorealistisen hiilipiirustuksen vanhasta valokuvasta. Lopuksi pohdin pääkysymystäni, miten tuotan fotorealistisen hiilipiirustuksen vanhasta valokuvasta’ ja päädyin vastaamaan siihen tutkimukseni perusteella, että tiedon, taidon ja kokemuksen avulla.

The subject of my thesis was photorealistic charcoal drawing. I studied photorealism and its characteristics in art. The purpose of the thesis was to take a closer look at this stylistic direction and decipher its essence into understandable form. My goal was also to gather informative information for hobbyists about photorealistic charcoal drawing, so that they wouldn't have to learn everything through trial and error. My research question was, "How do I produce a photorealistic charcoal drawing from an old photograph?"

The most central concepts in my thesis were photorealism in art, selection and editing of reference images, materials, and technique. For theoretical information, I searched books, articles, videos, and blogs. In my thesis, I also used a produced document as part of the acquisition method. I familiarized myself with the work and methods of a well-known artist. Observation was used as the data collection method. I created several line drawing sketches and one photorealistic charcoal drawing myself. I wrote down the progress of the work with notes. I captured the stages through both video and photography. The thesis was an artistic research, in which I used formalistic analysis as an analysis method.

The main objective of my thesis, I managed to create an authentic depiction of photorealistic charcoal drawing. I found out the biggest secrets of the style and compiled a comprehensive knowledge base from them, for both, myself, and other enthusiasts in the field. I concluded that my research findings would certainly be beneficial for beginners in photorealistic charcoal drawing. As a result of my thesis, I also produced a 100 x 70 cm photorealistic charcoal drawing from an old photograph. Finally, I thought about my main question, "How do I produce a photorealistic charcoal drawing from an old photograph," and based on my research, I concluded that it is done "through knowledge, skill, and experience."
