This thesis is commissioned in partnership with a company involved within the hydrogen trucking industry, seeking to find out the customer requirements for hydrogen trucks and the resulting implications for truck manufacturers. The focus is on how to improve the acceptance and integration of hydrogen technology in the trucking sector. The study starts with a comprehensive examination of the current state of hydrogen transportation, emphasizing the critical aspects of customer expectations and industry readiness.
The theoretical framework of the thesis is built upon a publication of existing literature on sustainable transportation, method of analysis and relevant theories. Key concepts such as environmental sustainability, technological innovation, and market adoption strategies are explored to provide a well-rounded understanding of the subject. Following the theoretical groundwork, the research utilizes qualitative methods, primarily through interviews with industry experts and companies currently engaged with hydrogen trucks. These interviews, conducted under the assurance of anonymity to protect business sensitivities, offer invaluable insights into the practical challenges and opportunities within the industry.
The core of the thesis is a qualitative SWOT analysis that synthesizes the information gathered from interviews and literature to assess the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats associated with the hydrogen trucking. This analysis aims to identify actionable strategies for truck manufacturers to enhance their market position by aligning their products with customer requirements and expectations. The ultimate goal of this thesis is therefore to contribute to the broader discussion on sustainable transportation and to assist truck manufacturers in navigating the transition towards hydrogen fuel, thereby fostering a more sustainable and inclusive future for the industry.
